During the last weeks, many of our friends and guests have been asking the same question: ‘How can we help Ukrainians?’

To answer that call, we, guides, managers, founders, and partners of Active Ukraine travel agency introduce a Paths of Freedom Charity to support Ukrainian paramedics, displaced people, and other important initiatives.

As Ukraine is in the midst of the war, we can’t offer you any safe travels here. But we can offer access to future unique educative adventures in exchange for a donation to save Ukrainian lives.

The White Walkers Tour

Explore the main battlefields of the North-Eastern front.

  • Kharkiv - a vibrant city of huge cultural and industrial importance. The battle of Kharkiv was described as the “Stalingrad of the 21st century”.
  • Okhtyrka - a sleepy provincial town known as the birthplace of brilliant Ukrainian writer Ivan Bahrianyi. It became a scene of a devastating battle for weeks. Constant shelling by invaders turned the town into ruins, but Okhtyrka does not give up.
  • A city of Sumy laying in just 35 km from the Russian border became a strategic target of occupants starting from day one, as its capturing would open up the road to the blockade of Kyiv from the East. The city has suffered heavy shelling and urban fighting, but up to now, Sumy stands firm.
  • Chernihiv - a historical and architectural gem among Ukrainian medieval-born cities. For years we proudly provided our clients with adventures in this beautiful city. At the time of writing these lines, Chernihiv is in the siege, its heroic defenders have blocked the enemy’s advancing and secured the North-Eastern outskirts of Kyiv.

The Russian Battleship Go F*ck Yourself Tour

A travel to most prominent points of the war’s Southern direction.

  • Mykolaiv - a city of shipbuilders and incredibly optimistic people, but also a site of heroic resistance to the invaders. Despite being heavily bombed and besieged for weeks, Mykolaiv stands proud.
  • Kherson - a watermelon capital of Ukraine, was occupied by the enemy in the first days of the war. It’s a city whose unbreakable citizens protest with Ukrainian flags in front of armed to the teeth and shaking with fear occupants.
  • Energodar - a place of battle near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. At the moment of writing these lines both the town and NPP are occupied. We believe it’s not for long.
  • The Snake island - no need for further introduction. This is a very remote place with a military base and restricted access, so we cannot guarantee it will be possible to include this legendary spot into the tour. But we promise to do everything we can to get you there.

The Heroes and Villains of Donbas Tour

A reminder that the war against freedom in Ukraine began not in 2022, but eight years before.

  • Mariupol - a pain and tears of all Ukrainians. Once it was a vibrant cultural and industrial center and a heart of Greek diaspora in Ukraine. We believe Mariupol will stand and shine again.
  • Volnovakha, Mariinka, Avdiivka, Popasna, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Bakhmut and many more. If a city or town can be named a war hero, each item of this list is such a hero.
  • Donetsk.Occupied by Russians in 2014 Donetsk turned to an actual antiutopia, where anyone can be arrested, beaten, tortured and killed for even the slightest suspicion of sympathy for Ukraine. Former art center Izolyatsia is turned into a concentration camp in a heart of Europe. We believe the day will come and Donetsk will return home, and that day will come soon.
  • Donetsk airport - an ultimate battle between good and evil back in 2014. Modern Ukrainian Armed Forces were born here.

Important notes

  • Our prayers are for the violence to be over as soon as possible, but the war is going on. Therefore we cannot evaluate final plans and prices of tours. Current tour descriptions are very approximate.
  • But we promise you that we will use all our skills and over 10 years of experience to craft the best possible adventure for you.
  • Our guests’ safety is our priority. All Paths of Freedom Tours will become available when the areas are free and safe for visiting.
  • After the war, people will need jobs desperately. We will involve local guides and vendors in conducting tours,
  • You will be able to apply your discount to any other tour offered by Active Ukraine.
  • We are considering creating something like Rebuild Ukraine volunteering tours after the war. If you are interested in them, send us a message, sign up for a newsletter or follow our social media, and wait for announcements.

Who we are

Active Ukraine is a small family and friends-run travel company that crafts unique travels, active and cultural adventures all over Ukraine. We maintain principles of social responsibility by heavily cooperating with local guides and artisans including those in remote rural areas.

A good example of what we do is one of our most loved tours, where mountain hiking/biking is combined with masterclasses held by artisans in remote villages of Carpathian mountains.
